About MYDS
MYDS supports refugee and host community youth through practical training, mentorship, and community-rooted development.
Our story
Founded 9 January 2018
Kyempango A4 Village, Rwamwanja
Muungano Youth Development Skills is a community-based organization established on 9 January 2018 in Kyempango A4 Village, Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge District.
Its inception was driven by the challenges experienced within the settlement and the pressing need to address gender-based violence, early pregnancies, early marriages, and poverty. Recognizing the impact of idleness on the community, especially among youth and women, the organization set out to create a transformative platform for self-reliance and a more harmonious society.
The organization initially supported orphans with food and scholastic materials so they could continue their education. That compassionate effort began through internal contributions. Over time, the work expanded to support young women and single mothers through practical skills development designed around their immediate needs.
These programs require minimal academic knowledge and focus on practical skills that open a path toward economic independence, stability, and dignity. Today, MYDS continues to build that path with the community, one learner, one family, and one opportunity at a time.
Our work is guided by a commitment to practical opportunity, shared knowledge, and a future where young people can shape their own lives and strengthen their communities.
To empower young people to achieve self-reliance through diverse programs and activities facilitated by the organization.
To foster self-sustainability among youth in both refugee and host communities through skills sharing.
